Online Ads and Affiliate Programs

The November issue of Business 2.0 had an interesting store by Dan Schoeffler titled, "The Merchant of Margaritaville."   The article covers a business model of driving traffic to your affiliate account by way of online ads from google or yahoo.

Here’s a question I’ll bet you’ve asked your-self: Given a laptop, an Internet connection, and a comfortable lounge chair, how can I earn enough to let me laze on a tropical beach instead of propping my eyes open with matchsticks in my cubicle?

Linux Consultants Making $75-$250 an Hour

I enjoyed Corinne McKay's piece on Linux consultants titled, "Linux consultants find a niche in growing market."

With Linux consultants reporting billings of $75 to $250 and up per hour, while working flexible schedules and freeing themselves from the strings of a large employer, consulting seems an appealing field to enter. At the same time, successful consultants stress that entrepreneurship requires a mix of skills that is often the opposite of what's appealing to a corporate employer.

Billing from $75 up to $250 seems like a pretty decent gig to me.

17 Most Common Business Mistakes

(via Scoble) Entrepreneur.com posted an article title, "What Not to Do."

[John Osher] came up with an informal list of "16 Mistakes Start-Ups Make"—since expanded to 17—that has been used in a Harvard Business School case study, has been cited in many publications, and has become a part of what he teaches budding entrepreneurs in his frequent university lectures.

On page 3 near the bottom, you can find 5 tips for success.  I liked #2, hire the best people available at the time.
