Awards Verification Center Letter
A few days ago I received an "Official Prizewinner Notification" letter from the dubious Awards Verification Center aka Silverleaf Resorts, 2400 W Pioneer Pkwy, Suite 210, Arlington, TX 76013. Susan Murray, their Awards Director, stated that I had recently one of four prizes [Mercedes Benz M-Class, BMW X5, Porshe Cayenne, etc.]
After some internet searches, I found out that this outfit is in the Time Share business and seem to have a record with the Dallas BBB.
*UPDATE* 21 NOV 2006
This is too strange. Today, I received the "blue post card" in the mail from -- Awards Verification Center. Susan Murray is still their Awards Director and she wants me to speak to one of her assistants named Sandra or Kim. Their toll free number is 888-383-7152.
Hmm. I wander how much they squander on postage for all of these mailings?
Article 4 [Fort Worth Star Telegram]
*UPDATE* 5 DEC 2006
You will never guess what I received in the mail today. A Christmas card from a high school bud? Wrong. A bill from the cable company? Wrong again.
Disguised in a yellow and brown envelope, I received another letter from.....the mysterious Awards Verification Center. They were sending me my FINAL NOTICE.
Upon further review I realized:
- They listed a new toll free number 866-804-8591.
- Sandra and Kim are still Susan Murray's assistants.
- Susan Murray still holds office as the Awards Director.

Nicole -
Even though I have not personally responded to their several offers, I'm led to believe that you must sit through some sort of sales meeting or sales pitch about purchasing a "time-share" to redeem your prize.

Good luck.

Hi -
I have also received a few of the 4 x 6 "postcards" regarding my "guaranteed prize" (Mercedes, BMW, Porsche, $40,000 cash, etc.). This was also my "final notice". Same Return Address. Same Director (Susan Murray). Same assistants (Sandra, Kim). So I decided to look this up online. Funny story on the link posted by Chris on January 27th. Glad I checked this out.
By the way, the toll free # I received is 888-556-0929. Needless to say, I haven't called.

Chris, hilarious story, true or not. Thanks for the info on "The Blue Postcard"

I'm really thankful for everyone's comments regarding the Awards Verification Center in Texas. They make it sound so tempting but the red flag when up as I still continue to receive the "Final Notice" to call and that I would receive the guaranteed prizes. The same prizes everyone else was offered was also offered to me. What a hoax!

I just got the notice today...should I even call?
Posted by: Samantha | Feb 16, 2007 9:19:23 PM
I got my first blue postcard from Susan last week and my second one this week. This one stated it is my FINAL NOTICE. Glad to hear I'm not the only one getting them.
Not sure if this is related to the blue card people...I also got a call at work yesterday from 800-918-4224 - they hung up when I answered, probably realized it was a business. Caller ID said "Award Claim"

I'm very glad to have found your site, having just received the same "Instant Gold Giveaway" winning notification, today. It isn't worth my bother -- that is for certain -- especially if it is connected to a time share. Worse, they're on the BBB "bad" list. Thanks for the "heads-up." In the meantime, save wisely -- and you'll be rich, eventually.

Write "Return to Sender" on the card and send it back.

Thank you, Thank you for this website. I also received the blue card. I have received this before, scheduled and cancelled. But out of curiosity, I called :). There was the sales pitch, of course, and I was scheduling a visit. As I was speaking and confirming my visit, I "Goggled" the Awards verification Center". I began reading all the comments, and began to think of a reason to cancel. When the salesman stated, I had to have an income of 40K, and I immediately stated, I did not. Talk about abruptly hanging up on me (lol). Isn't the Internet wonderful, just a few seconds of research can save a lifetime of regret. Thanks to all of you for posting.

I just got the famed call from Nicloe of the Award Claims Center (800-918-4224) at work on my answering machine...I either won a Ford Explorer or $25k...claim number SNSC3112. If anyone wants it, go for it. As far as I'm concerned, if you really won something, they will come knocking on your door with the prize in tow.
Posted by: Tim | Mar 26, 2007 11:06:09 AM
I can only guess where they get their address list. I've got two addresses listed for my location; one is the official USPS address, the other is the one assigned to me via the telephone company. The latter has caused a little chaos when it comes to calling in service calls or bill delivery from time to time. The address listed on the card is the one listed with the telephone company. If the bells are selling their address lists against the will of their customers, then they are in for a serious shellacking by the state and fed.

THANKS A TON & KUDO'S to your site - These guys sent me the same envelope. It contained – a INSTANT GOLD GIVEAWAY CERTIFICATE & A LETTER ADDRESSED TO ME .
.Now look at the language - Mercedes or Porsche or $1500 Shopping Spree or Adventure trip or $500 Cash - What a Low IQ idiot would have drafted the INSTANT GOLD GIVE AWAY CERTIFICATE.
Please be aware of THIS SILLY SCAM:

JUST RECEIVED SAME LETTER. IT"S A SCAM. THEY TELL YOU YOU"VE WON A MERCEDES, BMW, PORCHE, CASH, ETC., BUT YOU MUST ATTEND A TIME SHARE SALES PITCH SEMINAR IN ORDER TO CLAIM YOUR PRIZE. THEN THEY TELL YOU THAT THEY DON'T KNOW WHICH PRIZE UNTIL YOU ATTEND.
WANT TO KNOW WHAT THE FANTASTIC PRIZE IS THAT THEY'RE GIVING AWAY? ...A ONE DAY (DAYTIME ONLY, NOT OVERNIGHT) STAY, OR ACCESS TO A RESORT. THEY CALL IT A "HOLIDAY PACK". WHAT A JOKE.
BOTTOM LINE- THEY ARE LYING. DON'T TAKE THE BAIT.
YOU KNOW WHAT THEY SAY...IF IT SOUNDS TO GOOD TO BE TRUE IT PROBABLY IS.
Posted by: RATHERNOT | Apr 13, 2007 3:14:54 PM
Stay away from time shares, do you know how much commission their salespeople make from one sale? Ever tried to sell a time share? Don't buy, it's the worst deal out there.

Must be an old mailing list they are using, bucause my wife just received the same notice sent to her maiden name.

My daughter received a letter with a $1,750 check at the top. It looked real until I examined it closely and found "This is not a check" written lightly on the right-hand edge, and "Non-Negotiable" on the back. By the way, the toll-free number has changed to 800-925-9525. It does say she (or we) can stop future mailings by contacting AVC at their address in Dallas. Nope. Not wasting 39 cents on that one.

Just received my letter today, at my office, I wrote "deceased" and returned it. Also, there is no time shares or resorts in Tyler, Texas. I have lived in Tyler for 30 years, great place to raise kids, but no vacation spots.

I just called the number and bluntly asked how big of a scam this is. And they told me the following about their program.
1) Their are qualifying requirements to receive the "free" gifts. (21+,Credit or Debit card in your name,40k+ household income)
2) You must do a 90 minute tour of one of their time share resorts, it's a driven tour with a sales guy (yah scary but just tell him no it doesn't matter).
3) You receive a scratch off ticket at the end of the tour that will tell you which of the 4 big prizes you win (car, 40k cash, exotic island, 500 cash) and then you get to PICK which gift you want (cruise or Las vegas vacation). You WILL receive at least the dollar value of the check attached to your notice.
This is not a scam as people think but a strong selling tactic. Personally I think it's worth taking a day off work driving to the nearest resort they have and spending the 90 minutes just for the vacation (cruise or vegas).
*note: strong = kinda forcefull :)

This is a rip off in no uncertain terms folks. If you had won a prize they wouls be right on your !@!#$$$ doorstep.
Folks in Texas are supposed to be smarter than that.

I just got one today too, I'm glad I decided to look it up online first. Might be worth it if the flew me there and lodged me overnight. A total waste of time since I'm not in the market for a timeshare.

The mailing list cant be too old. Bought a house about 8 months ago and they have already got my address and name. I wonder who is selling our information. I know its not sbc cause i have never used them. Maybe t-mobile or time warner. This ring a bell with anyone. I will save this page and check back over it in a week or two. Thanks guys.

Imagine my surprise when I received an envelope today with what looks exactly like a check in it. I'm holding my five month old son, waiting for my student loan checks to come in, and I open an envelope with a check in it for 1750. Then I turn it over and it says "specimen-non negotiable". I called the number and asked where the heck they got my address from and who entered me in some contest. The lady told me she could hear my child in the background and maybe he was hungry (he had just eaten) and that I should go put him down and calm down and then call her back after taking a moment to relax. I got online and looked up Awards Verification Center, they are members of the Better Business Bureau, however the Time Share company thing raised big red flags with me. Don't call the number, throw the crap in the trash, it's all bunk.

I THINK THAT THIS BLUE LETTER AND THE LAST NOTICE IS A GREAT JOKE. WHO´S AWARDS VERIFICATION CENTER?

Mine just came to my school/work address marked from the REGIONAL DISBURSEMENT DEPARTMENT: RECORDS DIVISION. Marked that a phone call is required to arrange how to pick up my gift that could be $49,000 to as little as $500 cash. They also have that I have a guaranteed gift of a Flat Screen DVD Combo with a FULL remote control. They didn't write it very well at all. The number given is 1888-712-5019.
SERIOUSLY!!!!
Y'all please don't fall for these stupid scams. I have a friend that voluntarily signed up for a time share and hates it. It is chewing a huge hole in her pocket and she can't get rid of it.
Anyways..
good luck to all who are tempted. :)

I am glad I googled this company. I live in Atlanta, GA and received a letter with a check attached. They told me they were from Apple Mountain Resorts near Clarksville, GA. They are pretty persistent and every time I tried to ask a question they tried to ignore it and keep giving me the sales pitch. The guy even went so far as to offer me a gas rebate card once I got out there. When he transferred me to the Awards Verifier ..Ashley Geisler she could not even get his name right. He told me his name was Ryan Franks, but she said Bobby.
I do not think this is worth the time.

I, too, keep getting contacted by these people. They must be making some money because they've upgraded from a blue postcard to full letter and "certificate". The only so-called contest I've enterred in the last 10 years is one from a Panera restaurant about 3 (?) years back. I did not give them my phone number, so I haven't been getting the calls -- just the letters. Anybody else know where these people get their mailing list? Are they getting it from credit-card companies, or it it from "contests" like this Panera one?

I've been getting these too. I'm so glad I did a search on AVC Claims Center. That's how I came up with this thread. I've read all your posts, and I've been getting the exact same cards and notices. "You Did Not Pick Up! Parcel #9452 C Please Call Immediately @ 1-877-278-0436. Call within 72 hours."
I figured it had to do with touring some resort or something. I know a couple who decided to go check out an offer of a nice big free boat if they visited some resort. Well, they did, and the boat they got - it was a small inflatable raft.

I got the same piece of shit scam today in a yellow post card indicating that I did not pick up Parcel # 1157 C... FINAL ATTEMPT PLEASE CALL IMMEDIATELY 1-866-756-4489 Call Within 72 hours... I am not going to play this fool's game... Those are professional scams to hook you in a non-returnable harassment adventure with mail and phone calls... Best thing to do: JUST IGNORE THOSE FOR GOOD!!! I guess that they have hooked so many "easy to fool people" in those "booby traps," otherwise they would not be using such a kind of mail or phone scams with everybody... As they say in SPANISH: CADA DIA SALE UN PENDEJO A LA CALLE, EL QUE LO AGARRE PRIMERO SERA DE EL!!! HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! That translated into ENGLISH means: Every day there is a fool that gets out in the streets, the first one to catch him, will get him for good!!! LOL!!! Or I am wrong??? Hope this will be helpful to anyone else... as well as the other posted comments that I have read so far about this subject...
DEAR FRIENDS IF YOU WANNA WIN A LEGAL AND REAL PRIZE PLAY THE STATE LOTTERY BUT NEVER GET INTO THIS MAILING SCAMS!!! ONCE THEY HOOK YOU THEY WILL HARASS YOU FOR LIFE AND ON TOP OF IT, THEY WILL SHARE YOUR INFORMATION AS A "DUMBO" EASY TO FOOL WITH OTHER PROFESSIONAL SCAMMERS!!!

I just got a call yesterday from Shelly Hart from the Awards Claim Center, offering me a 2007 ford explorer, $25000, a trip to vegas, or a cruise to the bahamas. she asked me if i was between the ages of 28 and 72, which i'm not, and if i made 40k a year, which i don't. She started asking me if i knew anyone who did, and when i thought of someone, she tried to get their number! i told her i was going to talk to them about it first, and call her back today. now, after doing a little research, i'm thinking i won't. i just don't know how she got my cell number.

Time share presentations have their uses. When I was younger, my mom (a single mom with two kids) took a couple of "complimentary vacations" of a few days and nights, courtesy of timeshares. When it was time for the sales pitch, she brought us along. We whined and screamed and were generally obnoxious, until the salespeople would give up, and we could go back to filling the hot tub with bubble bath or whatever we were doing beforehand.
I got my letter from AVC in the mail today, but this one doesn't seem to be worth the time. I'll wait until I can get a real vacation out of it--I'm thinking maybe one of the ones in Cancun.
Posted by: Laura | Jun 14, 2007 8:01:21 PM
I too received the same bogus prize notifications. First the blue one, now today the yellow one. I googled AVC and this link and others saying what a hoax it is. If you are really interested in purchasing a timeshare thoroughly research it first. These people are already listed with the BBB (and it isn't good).

Well , as to how they get your address or phone number ! Through your bank debit car or credit card .. It seems that if you don't sign the new privacy agreement , stating for the card company or bank not to give out your address or telephone number , they give it out to companies like the awards co .
I started getting calls like this .. Finally I did some checking and called my bank on this .. They told me that they indeed give out your mailing address and phone number to companies like this or sell it to them .. I informed them I wanted this to stop .. I had to go through a list of the new privacy statements and tell them i want my info kept private ..
By this time tough its to late , several of these scam companies already have you on their mailing list in which they sell to other companies !

Hi,
I have been receiving these letters in blue. I received a yellow one today. I had called them once just for the heck of it and the call got diverted to Florida and the guy was trying to push me hard to setup some time in a hotel for some sales pitch. When I said no, he really got furious and angry. Don't really even bother calling them. Just put the letter in trash.

Thank you for your blog. We just moved to Texas and are beginning to get tired of all the phone calls and letters we are receiving. Your info helped me decide to toss this blue bogus certification and avoid the headache of thinking I was going to be gifted for my time. Very funny but frustrating story. Typical if it sounds to good...it usually is.
Posted by: Margaret | Jul 3, 2007 6:36:02 PM
Well I got all the same, except for today I recieved 2 yellow cards. I have a parcel # and the phone numbers has changed to 1-866-617-9776, 1-888-242-8925. But there is no sales director or other names on it it just says call and "FINAL NOTICE". I am on the do not call list, so I guess mail is the only way to get them to me. I am sure it is a time share scheme and I am thinking about putting all the notices in an envelope and sending them back to them.

Yeah, Today I recieved one of those mysterious blue cards that said I won a bunch of designer cars but I remember I never entered a contest. What should we do with Susan Murray,Sandra, and Kim to put them in the slammer?
Posted by: Peter | Jul 6, 2007 6:28:25 PM
Hi everyone i just thought you should know you should MAKE SURE you are POSITIVE you are dealing with scammers because I am employed with a company as one of the people who call and set up appointments for people who have officially won prizes much like what you guys are talking about but they are real prizes and although the people do have to listen to a presentation that is about an hour and half long they arent required to buy or join anything and could even tell the companies hey im not interested i just want my prize....they actually do receive prizes so before you just disreguard it make sure its actually a scam i hope i didnt offend anyone or something but i just dont want anyone to give up something like that because i unfortunately cant attend the seminars my company offers because im not 25 or older although i wish i could lol thanks for reading :-)
Posted by: Lauren | Jul 8, 2007 1:21:33 AM
Keep getting these same things most recently my final notice blue postcard. I won a NEW MERCEDES BENZ M-Class, BMW X5 or PORSCHE Cayenne - value $49,000 or $40,000 cash. WHAT A JOKE! How did they get my address anyway? I just moved in her a few months ago and don't give my address to freely.
So, how do I get rid of this crap?

Thanks to everyone for the great info on these scammers. I too got all the "you won a car @ etc." My husband was nagging me about calling to find out if there was anything to it. I didnot call, instead I found all the remarks you guys wrote, and I thank you again. I will most certainly call the # to block these guys if they call me.

I am so mad that these peolpe never called my phone.Otherwise,i would have taught them a nasty lesson. All you have to do is to forward your calls to 911 and they will figure out who is doing this. These animals deserve no positve comments and should be removed from this lovely panet(earth).

Mine just arrived too, so I Googled "regional disbursement department" and found this site. Thanks for all the info!

I got a brown envelope today with a "certificate" and letter inside from the Regional Disbursement Department: Records Division...promising a Benz, tv, blah blah blah...I figured I'd check out what this is about. I've only been married a little over a year and they have my married name plus our new address...we have only lived here 10 months. I'm guessing they get your info from Time Warner, Verizon, Bank of America, or Citibank. Anyone see a pattern here?

Just a quick note ..... If you receive a card telling you that you won something from AVC Claims Center of texas, toss it in the trash. You will never collect a single thing. They are huge scam. They are indeed being investigated by the government, but you all know how that works. Don't waste your time!

Just received my letter last week. saw that one person had the same phone number 1.800.334.1425. I knew it sounded too goo to be true. Thanks to this site, you all saved me lots of time and curiosity on if I should just call to check it out. The banks must have to give out the information because I just moved here in Novemner and that is the only new thing I have changed is my bank. My cell phone provider never changed, etc. Unless it would be the cable company. Who knows. Anyways, thanks for putting this site up.

Can you believe it! The envelope arrives with a screw-serity seal, file number, tracking number, and barcodes top & bottom—but my confidentiality is assured... RIGHT! In one line, I am instructed not to forget my "Personal Priority Code" and in another line it reads — Attn: Do Not Mail Dept. Humm!
For all of their efforts, it certainly would have been more impressive if Susan Murray, Sandra, or Kim just sent the FLAT SCREEN DVD combo first. . . If that were the case, I would give them a telephone call; instead of putting my shredder to work.

Over the years, I have gotten all manner of these offers. Some are great and some are scams. Anyone who offers a Mercedes or BMW as a prize can be canned without looking back.
We bought a time share in Galveston about twenty years ago and have thoroughly enjoyed all the swap out vacations. My daughter, son and now my grand daughter have gone on or are going on their honeymoon using it. I can sell it in a minute but it is too much fun.
The Silverleaf they talk about in this one is on Lake Palestine and is kinda crummy. We stayed their about ten years ago and I wouldn't go back.

I called the the number which has changed again
800-309-8853. Dustin couldn't believe I couldn't find just a spare minute to drive to Conroe to take a 90 minute tour. I could even show up early and be done all before 11:00! I told him I would have to look at my schedule a little closer and he gave me a different number to call 866-685-6821. I hung up and began my google search, and found this site. I immediatly called back. I told the girl who answered the phone that I needed to be removed from the mailling and phone list. She put me on hold, as I expected. I was suprised that it only took a few minutes before a different person answered the line. He asked me for my ID number, its on the front of your card above your name and mailling address. He said I would be removed. I'll repost if I continue to get correspondence from these people. But all and all it was pretty easy to be taken of the list... I hope!

Greetings,
I got the yellow card today with the Phone # 800-804-4534. We're in New England and it's stating what all of you have already said. "Final Attempt" Parcel # 7789,, etc, call within 72 hours. Sent from AVC Claims Center 200 W Pioneer Pkwy, #210 Arlington Tx 76013
We went on a TimeShare tour 3 yrs ago and after the 90 minutes we recieved coupons worth $300 BUT you had to spend money to save money! What a scam.. From what I read here previously I'm just tossing it out. Like they said; "Nothing comes for free!" and "If it sounds too good of a deal it probably is not!"

HELLO, I also have received these items you all have spoke of and here is a real eye sore for all of use to see and remember!"The Better Business Bureau"-Say's- If you have received an award letter from this company, it does not mean that you have won a contest. You will receive a free gift if you attend the sales presentation, but the chances that you will receive a major prize such as a car or cash are very slim. Most consumers receive the ten one-day holiday package, which allows use of resort facilities during the daytime only. Overnight accommodations and transportation are not included. The company can not say which award you will receive until you attend the sales presentation. The odds of receiving each award are listed in the company's confirmation letter.
In general, the Bureau recommends responding to sales promotions of this type only if you are interested in what the company has for sale, and not just for the sake of a free gift.
If you are considering the purchase of vacation property, be sure to review the contract carefully before signing. Find out whether the contract can be cancelled if you change your mind. Most timeshare contracts do not allow for cancellations or refunds. Determine what steps are required to make reservations, and be sure the contract clearly states which weeks your timeshare is available to you. What is so funny is that "Mia" is my NICKNAME and is not even CLOSE to my real name and they sent me a letter with the name "MIA" and my last name. So my question is..how the HELL did they get my nickname when I NEVER write it down on anything, do not have any credit cards or bills in my name (real or nickname) and have NEVER entered a contest!!! These people are stalkers!!!
Posted by: Mia | Aug 6, 2007 11:41:23 PM
Nicknames are always good to put down on sweepstakes. I usually go by my middle name (Brendon) on junk mail, e-mail and other non-essential things. By the way, the new number I got off my phone for the scam is (817)440-1032. I have started to give this number to all businesses who ask for a phone number when you check out at a store. I figured turnabout is fair play. Also had to forward this number to several chapters of my college fraternity so they could prank it as often as they want. I was entered into a contest by a well meaning family member who did not understand that this was a scam. I was suprised to hear that the prizes were BMW's, and other fancy cars when my family member told me he had put my name down to win a bass boat. I explained this to the guy and inquired when my bass boat would be delivered :) He told me he knew nothing about a bass boat but this was the correct contest nonetheless. They were very rude and called multiple times in one night. They don't seem to grasp the concept of "No" very well in Texas. I finally got sick of it and phoned my local PD whp filed a report. They told me it was nothing new and they get complaints like this all the time. Fight the Power!

Thanks so much for your web site that I quickly accessed by Googling 800-334-1425 at which Susan Murray's 1-800 number is listed for response. I could not have asked for better answers to my questions about my "Certificate of Award Instant Gold Giveaway" offering, too, the great gifts described by other responders. I had in mind an extensive Internet search that would have included the Dallas BBB, now not needed because of your immediate link to that BBB. I now need not waste a lot of my time on this; but feel behooved to thank you for doing what you do. Having "won" a million dollars each from the British and Spanish lotteries in early 2007, I am pleased to have a letter from the Houston Consul of Spain thanking me for sending such bogus award information to him to help Spanish police arrest some such blatant fraudulent identify thieves.
My only disappointment in this matter is the Dallas BBB saying that Susan Murray's outfit has a "satisfactory" BBB record. Now I understand why Houston's BBB President Dan Parsons told me personally that the Dallas BBB leaves something to be desired. Among other searches, I've checked power companies in Houston and was told flatly by Houston's BBB that three of them have an "unsatisfactory record." That helped me to make a decision in favor of Star Tex Power, of which the entire small city of Spring Valley, TX, is a satisfied customer.

I received 2 blue post cards in the mail 4 weeks ago, from Awards Verification Centers, and I finally decided to call today to see if I had won a mercedes, bmw, porche or $40K cash. Yeah right. The woman tells me its Apple Mtn Georgia resort. I told the woman, listened to her sales pitch, and her attempts to make the phone call personalize. Then hung up. Ok, they pulled this one on me 5 yrs ago. I registered for car giveaway in the mall. My sister and I went to check it out. Trying to get us to purchase a patch of dirt in the middle of nowhere for an obscene amount. Needless to say, I made the people so upset that I wouldn't fall for there time share scheme, I left without a prize. Don't fall for it.

i was harrassed over the past weekend by this resort claiming that i { iuse a pseudonym w/ the phone co.} owed them money . i told the caller and his supervisor no one at my phone # has that name they said they would take it off the list. an hour later i got a phone message to call 800-544-8468 and xt. 5027 and ask for lucinda from chevrolets corp. office. that is also a silver leaf resort # and not chevrolet. Is it legal? i called silver leaf affilliate R C I resorts of which i am a sorry member and complained and was told there is nothing they can do about it. the callers are bottom-feeders to say the least. thanks for letting me vent.

Don't waste your time with these folks. But I would like to say that there are good time share companies out there. I have owned mine since 1999 and I love it. WE use it several times a year. As a matter of fact we are leaving for motor cycle rally in Rio Dosa next week. We traded for a two bedroom condo on the lake. I am only an owner and have nothing to do with sales but if you would like to know more e-mail me.

I know I didn't enter any contests so I knew in my gut it was a scam. Thanks to Google and this blog, it made it easy to "shred" all the notices. I just feel bad for all the people who don't do their homework and actually call these marketing crooks.

I have received my FINAL NOTICE on a blue postcard the last 4 months. This month it is yellow. It is stamped in red letters FINAL ATTEMPT.
Posted by: Bill | Sep 10, 2007 4:35:15 PM
In June I received their 4x6 post-card indicating I had won one of four prizes like everyone mentioned above. I was dumb enough to call and give them my information but after hearing their pitch I decided against it. For the next two months I started receiving (on average) 12 calls a day from their 817-440-1032 or 866-685-6826 numbers. Every once in a while I would pick up and tell them I was no longer interested, that I had died, that I was unemployed and couldn't afford their stupid timeshares. I asked countless times for them to take me off their calling lists but it never stopped. Now on my thrid month and I still received about 3 calls a day. I tried a call block on one number and then the jsut call on another. This is the most eggregious marketing ploy I've ever encountered. I hate those bastards and if I ever meet this Susan Murray person I will kick her in the balls.

They called from 386-538-7515 saying they were the Award Clain Center and my name was chosen to be in the final drawing for a Ford Explorer. Without thinking it through I called them back on the 1-800-918-4224 they gave me and I gave them my phone number and marital status and state I lived in.
Something tells me im going to get annoyed within the next month or so. Anyways, yea, after that I checked online and found this. Too bad I didnt do this first. Oh well...

ONLY A MORON WILL FALL FOR SUCH NONSENSE. THERE'S NO SUCH THING AS A FREE LUNCH. IF YOU'RE TOLD THAT IT'S FREE IT'S EITHER YOU'VE ALREADY PAID FOR IT AND UNAWARE OF IT OR IT'S NOT TRUE. IT'S THAT SIMPLE PEOPLE

you got to read this bit.. it made my sides hurt with laughter. wish i could shout it out from the rooftops. apparently its ok to be deceitfull (white lie i suppose), if you've written it down somewhere where 99% of the folks they send this rubbish to would never find it.

Just received a letter today, 3 October 2007, with a $1,750 check at the top. It looked real until I examined it closely and found "This is not a check" written lightly on the right-hand edge, and "Non-Negotiable" on the back. By the way, the toll-free number has changed to 800-309-8853. It's funny how that number keeps changing? Now why would any honest, reputable company have to keep changing their contact numbers? I just don't understand! Now there is a consulation to all this! It does say that you can stop future mailings by contacting AVC at their address in Dallas. That probably goes in their list of addresses to be sold off! They spare no expense at your expense! Hmmm?

Quick Question. I received the post card, and I called. They asked me for the serial number on the post card so I gave it to them, they said they were gonna go over my prizes and that I have won either the car or the money, you sure this is a scam b/c he told me what my prize was on the phone, and I didn’t have to wait to get there?

My 80 year old mother in law just got the same yellow card. She was about to call them when she remembered I told her never call anybody without asking me first. So I looked them up and found this site. I knew it was a scam right away. Noticed the 800 number was stamped on the card not printed. Guess this makes it easy to change numbers often. Thanks to who ever started this site!!!

They probably use multiple phone numbers to know which of their many different mailings has the best track record in responses. It allows them to experiment with different come-ons to see which work best. Isn't it wonderful! They can find more ways to annoy us. Get a life.

I got one in the mail also. First a brown envelope saying that I was a grand prize winner. Of course I was skeptical so i didn't call. The next week or a few weeks later, the blue card saying that the regulations say that they must still send me a final notice about my award since they have been unable to reach me. Dang!

Thanks for the website

Yeah, I got my confirmation letter as well. My husband had left the mail sitting around for over a week and I looked and saw the nice prize package that said to call within 72 hours. Well, 72 hours was up, so I tossed it. Today we got a postcard saying it was the final attempt. Fortunately, I did a Yahoo search for the address and it is non-existant. AVC Claims Center as a buisiness is non-existant as well here in Arlington. So even though the links to the articles above are out of date, I'm glad I found this before calling.

I received my "final attempt" yellow postcard today and just wanted to post the # they gave me to call, 1-800-613-3858, and parcel #9039C "that you failed to pick up". Thanks for the blog...I'm going to attempt to contact the Arlington TX BBB.

I got my letter, my blue card and now my "Final Attempt". Will they stop now? The number on my card was 800-309-8853

Well, today is November 13, 2007 and they are still at it. Thanks for the info. I knew it was some kind of time share crap, but, was curious exactly what.
Thanks again!

I ALSO RECEIVED THE SAME THING AS EVERY ONE ELSE BUT WHEN I CALLED OUT OF CURIOSITY--I WAS TOLD I HAD TO MAKE $45,000.00 A YEAR BEFORE I WAS ELIGIBLE TO CLAIM MY GIFT. WHAT A SCAM. THEY DIDN'T BOTHER TO MENTION THAT IN ANY OF THE CORRESPONDENCE THAT I RECEIVED. AS FAR AS I AM CONCERNED THAT IS FALSE ADVERTISING. THE NUMBER I WAS GIVEN WAS 1-800-804-4534. I WAS TO TALK TO SANDRA OR KIM AND IT IS SUSAN MURRAY STILL IN CHARGE.
TODAY IS NOV.16--AND THEY ARE STILL ON THE GO.

BOO HOOO HOOO I finally "win" something and come here to find out it's a scam!!!! I'm sooooo upset!!!
LOL not really, I'm just glad to know I'm not the only one these fools THINK and I do emphasize "think" they can dupe into their little scheme. Thanks for the laughs.
My number to call is 800-309-8853 and OMG I only have 72 hours to respond!!!
They do have an address to stop future mailings:
AVC
1221 River Bend, Suite 120
Dallas, Texas 75247
Attn: Do Not Mail Dept.
Hope this helps someone.

Well, I knew right off this had to be a scam. It just seemed too good to be true, and you know...it was. I almost fallen for stuff like this in the past, but now I am getting wiser and more aware of this type of stuff that is going on in our world today.
I wish these people would get a life. It's hard enough to win anything free in this world without having some idiot(s) tell me...gee, I won and without doing a darn thing...amazing. Please people, folks just don't give stuff away to other people without strings attached and it's amazing how many people in a year tell me I won. I have one word for those people out there....get a real job and stop wasting our time with this "junk mail" I'll I have to say is thanks anyway, you can keep my prize.

WOW!! that is all I can say! I am just glad I checked it out first in line and that people already had comments aboot it otherwise I might have called :-| ...
A prize, just in time for Christmas - GREAT!! Not so much ... mine came with my full legal name which I NEVER use. I thought it was legit since it was addressed this way. Only my parents and my birth certificate addresses me this way ... Oh well ...
Posted by: KaiJai | Nov 24, 2007 3:44:25 PM
Strange that every letter is sent out with a different toll free number to call....mine is 1-800-238-9720....same contact names. Thanks for posting this for a heads up to people.....this is definitely a scam.....especially since the letter was addressed to my husband telling him he won a giveaway....he NEVER EVER enters contests.

To my surprise, I returned to work from Thanksgiving vacation and had a voicemail from Jenny at the Awards Claim Center (800-918-4224) saying I won a Ford Explorer or $25,000. All I needed to do was call the toll free number with my claim number (KT1107). I knew this wasn't real and decided to search the internet and was amazed at what I found. Why would they call my work number and on Thanksgiving Day? The number on the caller ID was 434-878-9976 which is out of Virginia.
Posted by: Sarah | Nov 27, 2007 3:08:30 PM
I got home today to hear a message on my answering machine from "Jenny at Awards Claim Center" at 1 (800) 918-4224 with a claim number for a free "ford exploer or $25,000 cash". It was the first I had ever heard of them, so being the cautious person I am, I decided to google them. I found page after page of various scams being run by them between mail, phone, and online complaints. I think I will file this "notification" in the round fileing cabinet better known as my trashcan. Thanks for the site and info guys.

OMG! I just checked the info against what txmommy said, and they gave her the SAME claim number : KT1107. More proof it's all just a scam. A REAL contest would have sepparate claim numbers for each winner regaurdless of the prize for tracking purposes and taxes. Thanks Guys!

I got the letter yesterday from : Susan Murray saying that "your PRIZE and GIFT total a minimum value of $739!" I looked up this site. Thanks to Google and the creator of this page. Hopefully, more and more people will see this site and would get alerted. Throw away the letter where it belongs (in trash). Think positive.

Hi all,
Yes, this definitely reeks of a scam.
I just began my research on this mailing (I too rec'd the letter AND post card) and ran across your site. I find this "sweepstakes" even more suspicious, because the AVC place of business appears to be in Arlington, TX but "do not mail" address is in Dallas, TX. That is interesting to me because the vacation scam company Horizon Travel was based in Arlington with legal office in Dallas.
I also note that the envelope has all this "Security Seal" with "Phone Call Required" fake check box / nonsense. I really wonder if the postage--which was made to LOOK LIKE a postage meter print--is fraudulent. I am planning to ask the Postmaster.
For any reader who is interested in how I and others have been scammed by vacation scam artists, I invite you to seem my and others' postings as theSqueakyWheel.com (you can go there and search for "Horizon Travel."

I am not even going to call back, it says to ask for Kim or Lisa... but I am sure they will ask for some personally Identifiable info, like your ssn or date of birth...this is a scam you guys.

Total scam. i just got a phone call from 773 955 7221. she said that i entered a raffle at my bank. i then asked her what bank and she said she did not say that. that i had entered it online 18 months ago. also that i won a licoln navigator. she then asked me if i was 27 or over and if i made more than 50,000 a year. i said i was not 27 she then told me to send someone i trusted that was over twenty seven but that still made over 50000. i then looked it up and found this plus much more. i am suprised to see i am few in arizona. looks like they are nomads preying on innocent people. stinky butts. karma will get them.

Personally I think people should take this for what it is, a promotion for a resort. They are giving you a gift to go look at what they have to offer. is that so evil. If you don't like it don't go, but i don't think anyone is trying to get over

Today, December 04th,2007 we've just received a Security Seal letter-confidentially assured saying phone call required: YES(x), with a number of a file: , a tracking number, and with attention: No action can be taken without your response to this notice. This letter is from the REGIONAL DISBURSEMENT DEPARTMENT AVC at 2400 W Pioneer Pkwy, Suite 210 Arlington ,TX 76013.
Inside the letter it came 2 papers: 1 from the desk of Susan Murray telephone: 1-800-334-1425 about some prizes and also a Instant Gold Giveaway that we won a mercedez benz M-class,BMW X5, Porsche Cayenne, or $40,000 CASH, or $1,500 Shopping Spree, or a Exotic Island Adventure- $806 value or $500 Cash, and that we would also receive our guaranteed gift: LCD SUPER-THIN FLAT SCREEN DVD COMBO , TFT LCD FLAT SCREEN COLOR MONITOR, DVD/VCV/CD/MP3 player, SPEAKERS & FULL REMOTE CONTROL, I called them, gave my priority code number and he confirmed everything and said because I was in illinois the closest prize would be the resort for us and he gave the site for me to check before I decided anything because I was skeptical ( and still is hehe) the site is: www.silverresorts.com and he gave his phone and name ( Matthew Owin 1-866-685-6821) and said he could hold for us until Friday because I said I would show my husband because I've never received something like that to believe and I will never believe in these crazy scams we have in America. I am from Brazil, a third country, we have many scams too, but as here boy I tell you...I receive many per day in my e-mails and trash..Where are we going to stop without God in this earth????? Lord, have mercy on all the world's sinful nature being totally corrupted because money!!!!

Last year I recieved several mysterious notifications that I had won a Mercedes Benz, BMW, or Porshche, plus all the other awards the Instant Gold Giveaway promises. I didn't respond because it seemed like a hoax. This year I recieved the same letter! Amazing how I can win the same contest two times in two years! How lucky am I? I wonder how they got my full name and mailing address since I am a college student living in on campus housing and the only ones who have my address are my school, my family, and my lending institution?

Today (Dec 13, 2007) I received a boarding voucher for a Royal Caribbean cruise. The letter is from Susan Murray Awards Director. I knew right away tht this is some kind of scam but it intrigued me enough to search the internet looking for proof of it. I even called the number to see if the person picking up the phone would say what AVC stands for. Once I had that I was able to find this site. It is so sad that people fall for these scams. Glad you all have set up this site so that others may learn from your research!

I got my bait card in today's mail from AVC Claims, and knew it was just another stupid real estate come-on like I get repeatedly. Years ago I went to Conroe Texas to claim my gift promised by one of these lures. I left disgusted by the hype, unimpressed by the real estate, and empty-handed unless you count the free vacation I didn't want and couldn't afford.

I got one today, and my wife has received a similar mailing. I Googled the actual address, and it does indeed exist...looks like a strip mall in Arlington. Just down the street from the Arlington ISD. Someone call up Hank Hill and tell to go over and give them a good Texas tongue lashing! LOL
Piece of junk mail...only good for starting a fire or clogging up your trash.
Checked the BBB reports on this scam, and a list of reports a Texas mile long.
DON'T FALL FOR THIS SCAM. TOSS IMMEDIATELY! DON'T CALL THE NUMBER (WHICH CHANGES WITH EVERY MAILING)!
And right...Tyler is a beautiful small city. But it's not exactly a vacation spot like South Padre Island.

I remember when I went through this they kept me there for hours. I was supose to go on a dinner cruise that evening and I almost missed it (I got there at 10:00am).
They are down right awful. I did not even get my prize because I just had to leave. They use a tag team system to make you tired and give in. Each time they switch people you have to go through the entire list again of why you do not want a condo. It is so horrible. Do not waste your time.

AT&T (I am positive) sold my name and address. They are the only ones that misspelled my first and last name on my phone bill. I know everytime I get something from that misspelling that AT&T is at it again.
Callled Awards Claims Center to tell them to remove my name and number from their list. I never signed up for any contests and yes this is a timeshare scam. They want you to show up with drivers license and a major credit card. Piney Shores in Conroe TX is the latest time share offering.

This is to Cheryl,
Who said: "Personally I think people should take this for what it is, a promotion for a resort. They are giving you a gift to go look at what they have to offer. is that so evil. If you don't like it don't go, but i don't think anyone is trying to get over"
But what bothers me and a lot of other people here is the aggresive nature of harassment these people don't mind dishing out. If they were an exboyfriend we could have them locked-up. But because they are a business we can do nothing but lie back to them or ignore them.
They lie, harrass, lie some more call people many times a day. In my book this is not a good business eithic and should be totaly illegal. I too got my award certificate today, I looked it up and found many blogs warning people. Good thing, although I wasn't even close to falling for this stuff. It was just too obvious.
Sincerely,
Jessie

I have gotten tons of these. My mom and step dad loaded us all(5kids) up in the car and went to one. We got there at 1030 am. Didn't leave with 5 antsy kids until 330pm. We were all starving. They insisted on driving us(all) around for a tour. Went through tons of sales pitches, my parents just kept acting like they were thinking...maybe, skeptically trying to envision it. We saw our new future vacation spot(a muddy side of a hill) and was told that we had to spend at least several hundred thousand on the building we put there. The whole place was still in "development" My mom had lied and told them she made more than she did to get to take the tour..in hopes of a great prize. The prize...a $500 valued gift...a 5 inch screen cheap TV. Black and white, bulky, cheap, for maybe camping. It was that or a day vacation(that neither of my parents could have afforded the stuff to go along with it..can you see packing a lunch..balogna sandwiches..and taking them with you to a place you would have had to have paid for parking at). Anyway, not a total rip off, but I guess it just depends on if you value a cheap crappy little dollar store tv at $500.

I remember when I was 26, I was in Mexico on vacation. I wanted to try parasailing and a resort said tour our facility and get: a bottle of tequila, a Mexican blanket, and free parasailing. All I needed to do was take a 90 minute tour. The tour was nice but the trap at the end became painful. I had to set through the first sales guy, then the second sales guy, then the third telling them all NO till I was ready to cry and was begging to leave. They finally let me go after 5 hours with no food I was starving. I got to go parasailing for 10 minutes, the blanket was ready to fall to pieces and the tequila was the cheapest possible but I felt like I needed the whole bottle after I finally escaped what felt like a kidnapping. Now 10 years later I've received the yellow postcard and the blue postcard and lots of phone calls from AVC and I'm having nightmare flashbacks. Some might think the gifts are worth a full day of your life but if you know that you don't want a time share then you will not walk away happy. I have no interest in attending so I've called them and told them to take me off their list.

I RECEIVE many calls on my cell phone and (1) recognized that it was a 1-800 or (2) it was a 1-817 number. I kept "declining". Finally, one day I answered without looking at the number and I got this marketing person offering all these gifts and money and that I won this Mercedes, a trip, etc. To get rid of them, I did make an appointment on a Saturday at 1030 and ask them to send me directions because I was new to the area. It was then, I decided to check this out on a search and found all these previous people with the same problem. The only difference is now (1) the form is "green and not blue" and (2) the new place is at Canyon Lake.
Thank you for identifying Susan Murray and Sandra and Kim because they were named in the letter. When I ask them to send the info in the mail that I had to go to work, they started to ask me what I did for a living. I did tell them I was single. Today, I got this "invitation" in the mail with all these names and no directions where to go at Canyon Lake.
Thanks and I will send a "decline letter".
