Firefly & Serenity
I finally finished watching the first season of Firefly and I'm hooked. I first heard about the show from John Dvorak while listening to an episode of This Week in Tech (twit). John spoke highly of the show even though he dissed the theme song.
I rented the DVD version of Firefly through my Netflix account, but you can pick up the four DVD box set at a local retailer.
Even though I thoroughly enjoyed the TV show, I learned quite about about the back story from "The Signal," a podcast created by die hard fans that called themselves the Brown-Coats.
Now I'm looking forward to the release of the movie version of Firefly. "Serenity," should be in theaters next weekend.

Lawyers Follow GrokLaw
Law.com posted an article covering PJ's site, GrokLaw.net.
No one knows for sure who Pamela Jones is: where she's worked, where she lives, what she looks like or why she's so obsessed with a lawsuit by the SCO Group Inc. against IBM Corp.
But that doesn't stop lawyers embroiled in the breach of contract and trade secret violations case from being mesmerized by her Web site, www.Groklaw.net.
I'm a huge fan of PJ's work. It is truly amazing to me that PJ and her supporters have put together so much information concerning the SCO litigation.

Security Now Podcast
While listening to podcast over the weekend, Leo Laporte, who also runs the twit podcast, plugged his new audio show with Steve Gibson called "Security Now." I listened to half of episode #3 this morning while driving to work. Steve & Leo discussed the pros/cons of software versus hardware firewalls. Pretty interesting material. Check it out.

Update: 7 SEP 2005
I listened to shows #1, #2 last night and I must say they are putting out good material. Show #1 covered the zotob worm and #2 covered Micosoft's new Honey Monkey project.

Outsourcing IT Pain
If you have a few minutes, I would recommend anyone considering outsourcing part of their company's IT services to read "Backsourcing Pain", an article in the September issue of CIO.
JPMorgan Chase's decision to first outsource IT and then bring it back in-house stands as a cautionary tale for any CIO considering an outsourcing megadeal.

Attending Linucon
I made plans this year to attend Linucon, which is being held in Austin, Texas (SEP 30 - OCT 2). Hopefully I get to spend more time at the convention than I did last year.
