Netflix: Box-Office Star
Kim S. Nash wrote a flattering article about the success of Netflix, the online DVD rental service. I'm still on the $20.00 plan because paying late fees to Blockbuster stinks!
I'm also happy to report that I have convinced five friends to use Netflix instead of the usual Blockbuster style rental store. If you are not currently use Netflix, take their two week test drive for free.

BSD Article
I found this article highlighting the differences between Linux and the BSDs.
The differences between BSD and Linux all derive from basic philosophical differences. Once you understand those, everything else falls into place pretty neatly.

Weaknees & Tivo
Nice article plugging Weaknees as the easiest way to upgrade your Tivo with larger drives. My 80 hour Tivo still has plenty of room for me.

MyDoom Virus
Last night my wife was complaining about some new virus bouncing around her company's email system. Today I realized my company's mail server was getting hit pretty hard with the new MyDoom virus. Please update your virus signatures.

Update:
Also found a nifty tool [Stinger] to find and remove the MyDoom virus.
Slashdot has a thread on MyDoom as well and another thread about the DDOS on SCO.
SCO Offers Cash Reward for MyDoom virus creator.

Spellbound
Just finished watching "Spellbound." I really did enjoy watching the lives of eight kids as they prepare for the 1999 US National Spelling Bee. My wife and I kept laughing when we were introduced to the different family cultures and study preparations methods. I give it four outta five stars.

Earth Photos
A friend sent me a link to this great photo site [Gateway to Astronaut Photography of Earth] that hosts a ton of photos taken by astronauts.
The Gateway to Astronaut Photography of Earth hosts the best and most complete online collection of astronaut photographs of the Earth.Beginning with the Mercury missions in the early 1960s, astronauts have taken photographs of the Earth. Our database tracks the locations, supporting data, and digital images for these photographs. We process images coming down from the Space Shuttle and International Space Station on a daily basis and add them to the more than 482,014 (count updated monthly) views of the Earth already made accessible on our website, 98,630 of which are taken from the International Space Station (updated 10/20/2003, metadata in progress).

New Year's Resolutions
I laughed pretty hard after reading this article titled, "A dozen New Year's resolutions."
Resolution 3: I will always arrive at the airport no less than two hours before my flight, wear shoes that can be slipped on and off, remember not to carry my nail clippers in my roll-on bag and learn to relax and be resigned to being treated like a cross between diseased cattle, a criminal and an idiot.
I also carry a nail clipper kit in my laptop bag and I've had airport security pull me to the side because of it. While leaving New Orleans, I had to mail the kit to myself before they would let me pass the secuirty check point. Do I feel safer with the changes to airport security? Not really.

Services for Unix
Microsoft will be dropping their price on SFU (Services for Unix) from $99.00 per machine to $0.00.
SFU provides a ton of command line tools that are available on Unix systems.
