SCO after Google?
Industry wags are saying that God invented SCO to give people a company to hate more than Microsoft
I really do like that quote. Anyway read the story for the entire scoop.

Backpack Server Appliance
I found this little soho network server appliance that comes in 80 or 120 gig model. The server appliance has 802.11b access point, 4 port switch, and can be setup via web configuration. See data sheet (PDF) for details.

Update: 2 DEC 2003
Looks like I found another server appliance. Mirra.

Activation still Stinks
Jim Rapoza, famous to me for his truthful virus article, declares product activation as a sales killer. I agree, completely.

SCO vs BSD
Great. It looks like Darl and gang are planning to take on BSD. Will the madness end? hum... maybe next year I will be reading a headline that reads, "SCO plans lawsuit against Dennis Ritchie and Ken Thompson."

Virus and Paypal
My mail server is already collecting copies of the new paypal virus. I really do hate these virus writers that keep sending this mess out.
I also feel sorry for the poor saps that send their personal information and become victims of identify theft.

Elegant Universe
I finally watched the first 2 hours of "The Elegant Universe" on Tivo. Brian Greene does a good job of explaining physics and string theory. Good stuff.
I really cracked up when Brian covered quantum mechanics. He walks into bars and asks the bartender for an orange juice. The bartender replies with, "I'll try."

Busy Saturday
Spent most of my Saturday installing a new Win2k network with the help of "Mastering Windows 2000 Server" by Mark Minasi. I setup DHCP, DNS and a new Active Directory. Next I setup user accounts and configured a simple logon script (kixtart) that map some drives.
I'm glad I missed A&M poor performance against Missouri on Saturday. I still having a difficult time handling A&M biggest loss in school history.

AC on Ice
Yesterday I discovered that my AC unit in the server room was full of ice which prevented it from cooling. So I spent most of the day trying to devise ways of collecting melting ice and water with an empty trash and a roll of paper towels. What a complete mess.
In the afternoon, I stopped by the ITEC show which was held at the Austin Convention Center. I took a quick tour on the exhibitors floor. Is is just me or does ITEC seem to be getting smaller and smaller each year?
I did stop by Business Class Road Runner booth and asked question on pricing and quality of service. They are setting prices more in line with high speed DSL and T1 lines offered by the phone companies.

Hemi - What is it?
I love those hemi dodge truck commercials, but I never really new what the 'hemi' did. My guess was something in the engine that made the truck faster or added pulling power. Well I finally decided to look this one up on "How stuff works."
Short version:
- Hemi is a type of internal combustion engine.
- Hemi gets its name from its hemispherical combustion chamber
- Hemi is famous as a racing engine

Voyager
I read a nice article in Sunday's paper titled, "Spacecraft approaches edge of solar system." I always like reading stories about the two voyager space crafts. I find it truly amazing that these machines are still working so far from home.
